Coppola may be the only one not nominated tonight, but I get the feeling he’s happier now making small nerdy films than he was when he was making blockbusters.

The Purple Rose of Cairo
It boggles my mind why people don’t talk about this movie more when they talk about Woody Allen. One of my absolute favorites. I often talk about how you can tell how a director feels about their actor in a film and that’s never more visible than in this film. Mia is just amazing in this and takes what is a pretty simple and small film and turns it into a masterpiece. It’s a triumph of her skill and for Allen recognizing what she could do and how he could share that with us.
(Sidenote: This is often quoted as one of Allen’s all time favorites as well).
